Maple Grove people who have served in special ways and in special places as servants of our Lord

CPS (Civilian Public Service) workers:
September 1944- August 1946
  • Gaylord Fisher – Served at Logansport, in State Hospital -
  • Harland - Hazel Gortner – Served at Kane, PA forestry camp, at Marion VA State Hospital and at New Windsor, MD forestry camp
  • Clayton Keener – Served at Logansport, IN State Hospital

 

New Windsor Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS)

Conscientious Objectors (CO) – 1-W’s (Alternative Service): (Boys usually did this as an alternative to military service – some had to defend their stand before the draft boards of their county to receive their 1-W status.  Girls usually did it to serve since they were not included in the draft – at that time. Some did not go to BVS and the preparatory training – they just went to their assignment.) Here’s a list:
